“Would you like more champagne?” the server asked.
“I won’t say no!” became my refrain in Paris, in Mendoza, and now, in Calgary.
Tiny champagne bubbles effervescing in my flute is a sweet indulgence abroad or at home, so I am happy to see economical opportunities for partaking in France’s fizzy spirit during Yelloweek, which runs May 1-7 across Canada. Three Calgary restaurants will be offering Veuve Clicquot deals during happy hour to celebrate ingenuity in the culinary arts.
The event began in Montreal four years ago as an homage to Mme. Clicquot’s own ingenuity in the field of champagne. Yelloweek — so called for the iconic champagne’s distinct yellow label — has now spilled over to the rest of the country, and local restaurants are getting into the spirit of creativity by making appetizers and amuse-bouches to pair with Veuve.
“Champagne is meant to be enjoyed with food,” says Jordan Cameron, marketing manager, Alberta, for Moet Hennessy (which owns Veuve Clicquot).
Yellow Door Bistro is offering its Clicquot Gourmand program, which includes three complimentary amuse-bouches (an albacore tuna bite, an oyster, and a petite potato soufflé topped with sustainable caviar — yum!) with the purchase of one $15 flute of champagne.

How cute is this champagne and amuse-bouches pairing at Yellow Door? This deal will be available all May (not just during Yelloweek).
Both 80th and Ivy and The Derrick Gin Mill are doing complimentary appetizer pairings during Yelloweek with the purchase of two flutes of Veuve (bubbles sipping really is so much more fun with a friend!), and 80th and Ivy is also hosting a Veuve Clicquot pairing dinner on May 6.
So there really is no excuse not to get your bubbles on in Calgary next (yellow) week. Salut!
